The Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS) has been a member of the FIA since 1970 and since 1972 CAMS has represented Australia on the sporting side of the FIA while the on the Australian Automobile Association has looked after the touring side of the FIA. The FIA has two divisions: Touring and the Automobile – responsible for all matters relating to the ordinary motorist such as road safety, environment, consumer protection, mobility and tourism. This area is governed by the World Council for Touring and the Automobile.
The connection between motor sport and the broader motoring scene, on issues of both safety and environmental protection, is clear: the lessons learned in road and track competition can have a profound influence on the cars we drive every day. The FIA also aims to ensure that motor sport is conducted in accordance with the highest standards of safety and fairness. NASR became a member of the FIA through CAMS in 2006 and was given the responsibility of delegation of sporting power for speedway racing in Australia. This delegation not only recognises the significant development of Australian speedway in recent times, but cements NASR as the peak body for speedway racing in Australia. NASR has developed and implemented comprehensive policies and procedures for the conduct of speedway racing and to have the FIA accept these programs is clear recognition of the sound risk management strategies, policies, procedures and general management systems that NASR has implemented. This delegation now unites all of Australia's major motor sport governing bodies (CAMS, ANDRA, AKA and NASR) under the one umbrella. NASR is the first international speedway body to have achieved FIA delegation. Visit www.fia.com or www.cams.com.au for more information.
